After we all placed out hand in the “Mouth of Truth,” we headed back to the metro to revisit the Spanish Steps one more time. They were less crowded than the night before, so we were able to take more pictures without so many strangers in them. Sadly we headed back to the bus stop to ride 7.5 hours back to Paderno. About halfway through our ride back it started raining, and then snowing! It was a gorgeous ride, but we were glad to be back and sleep in our own beds.

Sunday morning came quicker than we had expected. We woke up and headed back to the WONDERFUL pastry shop, but to our disappointment it was closed. We are having a difficult time adjusting to shops and cafés not being open on Sunday. I guess church goers in Europe don’t get donuts on Sunday mornings like us Americans in the States. So sugar deprived we hopped on the metro and headed to the Church of Santa Maria. This is the lovely church that houses the “Mouth of Truth.” We hadn’t been told much about it, but it was on my tour for scenes from Roman Holiday, so Kyle made it a big deal we went to see it. Legend has it that before it was traduced by a clever philanderer it had the ability to identify liars. If someone told a lie while their hand was inserted in the god’s mouth, the hand would supposedly be bitten off.
